This is what we are. We should be proud. We do many tasks that many cannot, although they think it easy enough. How many times have you had to listen to the denouncing statement, "Well, it's not brain surgery, is it?" If you let your ego get in the way this can be very demeaning. However, If you do not and take this statement with the consideration of the "type" of person making the statement you will probably find many faults in their lifestyles. That is if you care to conduct yourself in this way. You don't have to as you can make a choice and be above it all.
The waiter position is so valued in Europe one cannot explain the discrepancy from the United States to our brothers and sisters in the other parts of the world. It must be because we treat like a lowly step sibling. Sure, there are millions of waits in the U.S., but how many really treat this position with the dignity it deserves? Do you? Are you proud of the job you do as a wait person and of using the fantastic financial opportunity as a "stepping stone?" When you get to the next stepping stone you are so seeking to obtain will you treat it the same? I had a football coach who once said, "you do in practice what you do in a game." I am sure many of you have heard a similar phrase. What do you think?
